Try Some Sole Love and Treat Your Feet

What do you think about your feet?

Do hurry to pull your socks on to cover them up? Or do you take joy in wearing sandals in the summer so you can show them off?

So many people I meet say how they don’t like their feet and I feel a bit sorry for these hardworking appendages. They work so hard to keep us upright, balanced and moving yet they seem to be unappreciated. I agree with Lenardo Da Vinci when he said

“The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.”

I too, am in awe of the incredible engineering that makes our feet work and I give thanks every day for how they move me around the place and I’m always impressed that they can carry my ever-increasing weight. I like to draw and sketch and when I looked through my sketch books the other day, I realised that I often sketch my own feet. Focusing on your feet can bring you lots of joy and there are some simple things you can do at home to give your feet a treat.

A Salt Bath

Get yourself settled in a comfortable and relaxing space. You might want to listen to some relaxing music, catch up on your favourite TV programme, settle down with a good book or just have a moment to do nothing but relax. You will need a towel and a bowl filled with warm water, add bath salts and let your feet soak in the water. Take some deep breaths in and out and relax until the water cools down.

Then take your time to dry your feet thoroughly with a clean fluffy towel. Whilst you do this be mindful considering every part of your foot. Drying each toe and the area between. Give your feet a stroke and a loving pummel.

CAUTIONS

Ensure the water isn’t too hot.

People who have diabetes or peripheral artery disease should consult a health care practitioner to check whether it will be ok for them to do this.

Legs Up Against The Wall

If you work on your feet all day this simple yoga pose can help to revive your legs and feet.

  • Sit on the floor close to a wall with your knees bent.
  • Take your legs up the wall as you lie back.
  • Wiggle your bottom as close to the wall as close as you can.
  • Let your arms fall to either side.
  • Take a deep breath in and slow release out.
  • Relax.
  • Stay in this position for as long as you feel comfortable.
  • Take care to slowly bring your legs back down, roll over to your side and take a moment before you get up.

CAUTIONS

People with Glaucoma shouldn’t do this pose and anyone with back or neck problems should consult a doctor before doing this.

Reflexology not only encourages individuals to recognise the importance of their feet and the physical demands placed upon them, but it also facilitates an enhanced connection with the body as a whole. Each foot possesses unique attributes, reflecting the distinct characteristics of every person who receives treatment.
